New Page

Hi guys! I am excited to tell you that I have a new page up. It contains two excerpts from the novel I am currently working away on. I'd love it if you checked it out and please, please, please comment, ;-) I love hearing from my peers/superiors!

p.s. the new page is called The Legend of Anirrin top right. Someone just inadvertently told me I should clear that up.

A Day at the Beach

When I started, I didn't really know where this poem was going to do. Which is typical for me and poetry, but I liked the way this one came out more than the other poems I have written lately and have deemed it post - worthy.

Charcoal washes down the beach like ink
The blackened logs carried out from their pits to the tide
Prints of animals write fables in the sand
Gulls screech as they pirouette across the sky
Diving between kites
Silhouetted like a shadow show
Of masterful carving
Iridescent kelp lies floating in
The tide’s current
Mermaid hair attached to a sandy scalp
And just adjacent to the rock
With the myriad of anemones and sea stars
A child screams with delight
For she has just found
The perfect sand dollar
Completely round
Not even chipped at the edges
And in a chubby fist she raises it for all to see
Though her parents are the only spectators around
Until the sun peeks out from its cotton curtains
Smiling down at the giggling toddler
And lays a diamond kiss on the dollar
And weaves gold into the girl’s hair
And binds the fables of the shore creature’s prints
Into a charcoal ink volume
In a cover the color of warmth and summer breezes
Just for a moment
Then it slips back like the tide
Receding from the shoreline
Its beaming light playing the water like a harp
Plucking out dolphin song

Spreading the Word

This is a new piece that I am going to do once in a while called 'Spreading the Word'. I'm not necessarily hosting anything, but if you want to do this too it would be really cool. What it is is when I find a blog that I want more people to check out, I will feature them on Spreading the Word. Some blogs I might feature because they are just getting started and don't have many followers yet, others have a bunch of followers and you probably all follow them but they are so awesome that I feature them anyway.

My first is Rose of the Desert (click on picture above) It is a blog that is pretty much anything, and I am one of its few followers
:'-( - Let's change that!

Reading or writing?

Lately, I have been having a dilemma of sorts: I can't decide whether to read or write. As a science fiction/ fantasy geek, I am always lining up the next book, but I am also writing a rough draft of a novel which takes up a lot of my time, especially since my plot planning is not yet where I would like it to be. I know a lot of you are writers yourselves, and so I pose the question- what do you do about it?

Thanks!

Amazing book on Writing

For Christmas, My mother gave me a book on writing called 'Writing Down the Bones' I know that many of my followers are writers or aspiring ones at least. I am sure many of you have heard of and read this book already, but if you have not, I strongly suggest that you do. Some of the stuff in it is really basic, but it is helping me organize my thoughts, and I have only read the first couple chapters.

Happy new year from Howling Turtle!
